[The PRIMUS Advantage]
With its compact design and outstanding clearance, its patented solid-state technology and optimized power consumption, PRIMUS provides the maximum in precision treatment, reliability, and ease to use.
More Precise Treatment
Conformal Therapy is a dose distribution that ideally conforms in size and share to the planning target volume, allowing dose escalation while sparing normal tissues. Everything about PRIMUS has been rethought and redesigned to make this ideal a reality.
Since divergent beam blocks are the standard for treating radiation oncology patients, Siemens incorporated into PRIMUS the only fully integrated three dimensional Multileaf Collimator (3D-MLC) on the market today. The Siemens 3D-MLC allows full 30 cm travel of individual leaves, providing maximum flexibility in designing treatment fields. At the same time, the low leakage values minimize radiation to normal tissue, and make possible modern treatment techniques such as Intensity Modulation.
For Intensity Modulation, we also developed SIMTECTM (Sequential Intensity Modulation Technology), which automates 3D-MLC setups so they can be sequentially delivered, verified, and recorded with maximum speed and accuracy. SIMTEC shortens treatment times while increasing clinical productivity.
- Photon energies as low as 4 MV and as high as 25 MV, and electron energies from 5 to 21 MeV, based on configuration
- Fully integrated 3D Multileaf Collimator with full 30 cm travel of individual leaves*
- Automatic setup of multifield, multisegment treatments for Intensity Modulation*
- Step-by-step visual verification and automatic documentation
PRIMUS Meets Compact Space Requirements
Integration of the klystron tube and modulator into a single small structure makes the PRIMUS linear accelerator a uniquely compact system. The minimal space requirements (as seen here) mean reduced costs for building construction and fast installations in very small rooms.
Easier To Use
For patients to receive optimum care, medical personnel must be able to work efficiently. That is why PRIMUS is designed to provide maximum clearance around the patient. With the newly introduced control system, therapists spend less time adjusting accelerator parameters and more time attending to their patients. These combined efficiencies translate into maximum utilization of PRIMUS---along with heightened productivity rate for the radiation oncology department and high-quality care for the patient.
The Siemens 3D-MLC is the only fully integrated system on the market offering the highest degree of safety for the patient. The use of the 3D-MLC reduces the need for fabrication of fully divergent beam blocks.
Patient comfort has always been a primary consideration in any Siemens design. The solid-state, high-voltage technology, and advanced internal cooling incorporated in PRIMUS provide extremely quiet operation---there are no external fans. And the compact design and modern color scheme contribute to a more soothing treatment to the patient.
